A resolution, a promise or even a willingness to do, perform or restrict certain things can also connote an offering to God. Therefore, the murthi or vigraha is revered as a living entity who is offered food, fruits, and betelnut among others. Temples usually have stricter worship routines that include offering upacharas like naivedyam multiple times a day as in Thirumala Venkateshwara Temple, Jagannatha Temple, the 6 main abodes of Lord Muruga, and many Hindu temples all over the world.
Most temples will allow only trained pujaris to cook the naivedyam. Food offered directly to the deity is considered as 'Maha Prasada' Great Offering and it is considered extremely auspicious to be able to partake a morsel of that. Offerings of food in home shrines are relatively simpler though the Hindu having observed cleanliness of body and mind will attempt to do so using sattvik items and in a purified space. A common practice is to mix the offered naivedyam back into the remaining food before partaking it.
Naivedyam means food offered to a Hindu deity as part of a worship ritual, before eating it. As such, tasting during preparation or eating the food before offering it to God is strictly forbidden.
The food is first placed before a deity and specific prayers are offered with accompanying rituals. The offerings may include cooked food, sugarcaneor fruits. Vegetarian food is usually offered and later distributed to the devotees who are present in the temple.
Non-vegetarian is prohibited in most of the temples, but there is evidence for non-vegetarian food — offerings to Goddess Kali include animals such as goats or roosterswhich are slaughtered in the temple precincts and offered. Many Hindus offer cooked food or some fruits to a picture or idol of a deity before they eat it. However, one needs to differentiate Naivedya from ' Prasad '. Prasad is what one gets from the God. The meaning of these words, respectively, is usually attributed to food that is first offered to God naivedyaand ultimately received from God prasad.

By God it is offered into the Fire of God. God is That which is to be attained by him who performs action pertaining to God. We should partake food with a sathwic pure, serene mind. Our ancestors recommended the offering of food to God before partaking. Food so partaken becomes prasad consecrated offering. Prayer cleanses the food of the three impurities caused by the absence of cleanliness of the vessel, cleanliness of the food stuff, and cleanliness in the process of cooking. It is necessary to get rid of these three impurities to purify the food, for pure food goes into the making of a pure mind.
It is not possible to ensure the purity of the cooking process because we do not know what thoughts rage in the mind of the man who prepares the food. Similarly, we cannot ensure the cleanliness of the food ingredients because we do not know whether it was acquired in a righteous way by the person who sold it to us.
Hence, it is essential on our part to offer food to God in the form of prayer so that these three impurities do not afflict our mind. The food thus offered to God is digested by 'Vaishwanara" in the digestive system.
How to offer Naivedya to the God ?
Since God exists in the form of fire as Vaishwanara, He digests the food along with the impurities. So, man will not be affected even if the impurities enter the food. On one of the days, Uncle Prahlad Rao gave a talk and he covered the potency of the food mantra stated below.
In the early days 70s if I recallSwami had asked all the Brindavan campus college boys to join Him for lunch.
வீட்டில் இறைவனுக்கு உணவை படைக்கும்போது கூறவேண்டிய மந்திரம்
At that time, only about boys were there. Kirlian photographer Dr. Baranowski was also there and was invited for lunch. The sumptuous food was laid out on plates in front of the boys.
The boys were waiting for Swami to come and join them. Baranowski then used his Kirlian camera and took photos of the food laid out on the plates.
No aura was found around the plates of food. Later, Swami arrived and joined the boys for lunch. The boys recited the Brahmaarpanam mantra before partaking the food. After the mantra was recited, Dr. Baranowski again took pictures of the food. This time, a blue aura was found around the plates of food. He was excited, but, having a scientific mind, asked Swami for the reason for the blue aura around the food.
Swami said that the Brahmaarpanam mantra is a very powerful mantra and that after recitation, the food is converted to prasadam, since it has been offered to God. It further purifies the food and all items around it. That is why the blue aura was found around the plates of food after the mantra was recited. He who thus sees that Brahman is action reaches Brahman alone.

Later on, I came to know, he had stopped publication of such books, as the market is not encouraging! This offering is called as Naivedya. It signifies the actual gross state of the individual.
Offering Naivedya is the last step in puja. The food items to be offered to each Deity is predetermined. The specific food item offered to a specific Deity attracts more frequencies of that respective Deity. After offering the Naivedyathe Deities subtly accept it afterwards this offering is called as Prasad, which is partaken by everyone.Yorkie puppies in idaho
When this Naivedya is partaken as prasad, we benefit from the energy of that Deity in it. In this article gives information about spiritual significance of offering Naivedya and various aspects of this act. While preparing Naivedya, less amount of red chilli powder, salt and oil should be used; sattvik substances such as ghee Clarified butter should be used in ample quantity.
When offering Naivedya, first pray to the Ishtadevata and draw a mandal on the floor in front of the Deity. Then place the banana leaf or plate containing Naivedya on this mandal with the stalk of the leaf towards the Deity and the tip of the leaf towards yourself.
While offering Naivedya, water should be sprinkled clockwise around the banana leaf or the plate only once this act is known as drawing a mandal. Water should not be sprinkled anticlockwise again. Then, the eyes should be closed by placing the thumb of the left hand on the left eye and the ring finger of the left hand on the right eye.
Bhav is important when offering any food item to a Deity. Greater the bhav of the individual offering Naivedya, greater is the possibility of the food being accepted by the Deity. While offering Naivedyawe should have a bhav that the Naivedya being offered by us is reaching the Deity and the Deity is accepting it.
Salt is associated with Pruthvitattva Absolute Earth Principle and apatattva Absolute Water Principle and hence, the proportion of Raja -Tama predominant waves attracted to it is greater. However, items prepared using salt can be offered to the Deities. Use minimum quantity of chilli, salt and oil when preparing dishes for Naivedya, since these substances are Raja-Tama predominant. Use more of ghee, since it is sattvik.
It makes the other substances sattvik too. When covered, the emission of waves from the food items into the atmosphere is controlled. Explanation: Naivedya items are prepared from sattvik substances, and hence, Naivedya as a whole too becomes sattvik. Generally, the environment in Kaliyug is Raja-Tama predominant.
If the Naivedya is left uncovered, there is greater possibility of it becoming Raja-Tama predominant. Hence, it is better to cover the food. Naivedya is offered to a Deity on a banana leaf. When compared with the stalk of a banana leaf, its tip has greater ability to emit sattvik waves. These fountain-like waves help in reducing the proportion of Raja-Tama components in the environment around the individual. Hence, while offering Naivedya to the Deity, the stalk of the leaf on which the Naivedya is served should be towards the Deity and its tip should be towards us.
The banana leaf with Naivedya shown in the arrangement above symbolises the state of the individual. In the actual arrangement do not place the Naivedya leaf. Offer Naivedya only after puja has been completed. For convenience, before commencing puja, move the platter to the right of the panchapatra and ritualistic spoon. You can change your city from here.
